It’s hard to believe, but it’s true: Most of us have broken the law in some way, shape or form, even if only one time. Everyone has different personal values and moral rules they use to determine what they consider “acceptable” behavior. But at the end of the day, most of us have either knowingly or unknowingly broken a law. Here is a list of some of the illegal things almost everyone has done at least once in their life.

Driving a Vehicle Without a Valid Driver’s License
It’s not uncommon for drivers to get behind the wheel without a valid driver’s license. Typically, drivers will only do this in emergencies, such as if they need to transport an ailing family member to the hospital. While this is an understandable urge and happens more often than we realize, it’s still illegal and can lead to serious repercussions if you’re caught.

Nearly everyone has trespassed at least once in their life. It could be something as simple as cutting through someone else’s property to get to yours faster or going into a building that’s off-limits. It’s usually done to save time or get to a certain location more quickly, but it can still land you in trouble if you’re found out.

Public Drunkenness
Many of us have had one too many drinks in public. Whether it’s at a bar, a park, or any other public place, drinking outside the comfort of your home can easily get you into legal trouble. Not only is public drunkenness illegal, it can also put you in dangerous situations.

Jaywalking is surprisingly one of the most common illegal acts almost everyone has done at one point or another. We’ve all been in a rush or in a hurry and decide to cross the street when we “shouldn’t.” Even if it’s just a few seconds of convenience, you still can’t do it in certain places.

Downloading Music Illegally
It seems like “everyone” has downloaded some kind of music illegally, even if it’s just one song. From unauthorized file-sharing platforms to YouTube-to-MP3 sites, it’s not difficult to get your hands on music without paying for it. Although it’s wrong and illegal, finding a way to access free music gives some people a sense of relief or validation in terms of money.

Piracy or Bootlegging Movies
Piracy or bootlegging movies is another one of the illegal things almost everyone has done. Whether it’s downloading a movie illegally or copying a rented DVD to share with friends, unauthorized movie consumption is one of the most common ways to infringe copyright laws.

Smoking Cigarettes or Marijuana
Smoking cigarettes or marijuana is another illegal act almost everyone has tried at least once. It’s especially true among teenagers or young adults looking to have a good time at parties or clubs. It’s obviously frowned upon and can get you in a lot of trouble, but we’ve all done it at least once.

Shoplifting might be considered a more severe illegal act, but it’s still something almost everyone has done. We’ve all been tempted to keep an extra item from a store or shoplift something small, such as a candy bar or magazine. Most of the time, it’s done in a moment of impulsivity without understanding the consequences.

Breaking the law is never good, but some of us have found ourselves inadvertently in illegal situations at some point in our lives. From driving without a valid license to shoplifting, these are all common, illegal things almost everyone has done at least once. Understanding and abiding by the law is key, but if we do slip up, it’s important to be aware of the potential consequences.
